2023 Dunlop Exgel National Championship | Rainbow Circuit | 7 Year Old Kart Racer
August 6, 2023, Race Report. Dunlop Exgel Kid’s Kart National Championship at Rainbow Circuit. I (Daddy Reggie) was a little more relaxed this year (compared to last year), especially after Miles had strong practice sessions with the rental engine on Saturday. (Oddly enough we got the same engine as last year!) Miles had the top time during the Sunday practice session, but just like last year, there was some drama during Time Trials. Last year his chain came off after getting hit but this year his engine overheated and the kart just slowed down during Lap 1! I scrambled and made some adjustments to the carburetor. He had a strong Qualifying 1 session but the engine stopped again on the final lap during Qualifying 2. I asked the shop owner to check the engine but he said everything seemed ok. I made more changes to the carburetor and gave it a good cleaning.
Miles started the Pre-Final in 13th (out of 20) and had an impressive run all the way up to 6th! He was exhausted after the Pre-Finals but knew he had a big job to do during the Final. He had a great start and by Lap 3 (of 12) he was up to 1st! He ended up dominating the race and finished with a 10.2-second lead over the 2nd-place driver! From last place after Time Trials to #1 during the race! What an amazing feat! Such an amazing end to a drama-filled day!
